The Community Health Assessment Tool (CHAT) provides secure web-based access to a repository containing a variety of data collections gathered and maintained by the Washington State Department of Health (DOH) in separate, uncoordinated databases. CHAT replaces two older tools for analyzing these data: VistaPHw and EpiQMS. The CHAT tool will permit the continuation of established periodic assessments by Local Health Jurisdictions and other healthcare professionals in DOH while enlarging the opportunities for accessing and under-standing these data.

At the heart of CHAT is a repository built from the periodic release of detailed information on these topics:

  • Birth
  • Death
  • Fatal Injury
  • Infant Death
  • Abortion
  • Population and Census
  • Life Expectancy
  • Hospitalization
  • Hospitalization: Injury
  • Communicable Disease,
  • Cancer
  • Tuberculosis
  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases
These data are standardized and collected into the CHAT data repository which can be queried and the output structured along a very wide set of defined parameters, and subjected to statistical analysis to identify and track meaningful relationships and trends. Periodic data releases and corrections maintain the currency of data and its continuity with prior period information.

CHAT data can be retrieved and represented in a variety of forms:

  • Statistical tables which can be exported for analysis in Excel or other spreadsheet and database programs,
  • Charts and graphs, and
  • Maps showing geographic distributions.
The tool also includes the ability for users to define and store query definitions for repetitive use over time.
