Birth Certificates

For records from July 1, 1907 to present: you can order through the Center for Health Statistics by walk-in same day service, over the phone, or mailing in your request.
For records from January 1, 1921 to present: you can order through local health jurisdictions.
For records before July 1, 1907 in King, Pierce, Snohomish and Spokane: contact the local health jurisdiction.
For all other counties for records before July 1, 1907: contact the county auditor.
For confidential information from your own birth record, fill out this application for confidential birth information (64KB PDF) and mail it to the Center for Health Statistics.

Death Certificates

For recent records, in the current or previous month, please contact the local health jurisdiction where the event occurred.
July 1, 1907 to two months before the present you can order through the Center for Health Statistics by walk-in same day service, over the phone, or mailing in your request.
For records before July 1, 1907: contact the Research Office of the Washington State Archives.

Marriage Certificates

For recent marriage certificates from the last two months: contact the county auditor where the license was filed.
For certificates from January 1, 1968 to two months before the present: order through the Center for Health Statistics by walk-in same day service, over the phone, or mailing in your request.
For certificates before January 1, 1968: contact the county auditor where the license was obtained.

Divorce Certificates

For recent divorce certificates from the last two months: contact the county clerk where the event was filed.

The attractive 8 1/2" x 11" certificate is a legal, official document. It includes the individual’s name, date and place of birth, as well as the name and birthplace of the parent(s). Purchasing an Heirloom Birth Certificate helps to protect Washington’s most valuable resource – children. For each $40 purchase of an Heirloom Birth Certificate, $25 is tax-deductible. More than half of the certificate’s cost benefits the Washington Children’s Trust Fund (managed by the Washington Council for Children and Families), that supports community-based programs that strengthen families.
