Urgent Information for Prescribers

A new state law requires all licensed prescribers to use approved tamper-resistant pads and paper when doing hard copy, written prescriptions. This law goes into effect July 1, 2010.

Important Notes:

The list of vendors has been removed.

The list has been the basis for confusion, which has lead to misinterpretation of its content.

The Board of Pharmacy does not endorse, credential, or otherwise certify any printer or supplier of tamper resistant paper. The Board simply reviews and approves paper that meets the security features in the law and authorized the application of the Board’s seal to the approved paper.

Board of Pharmacy approved tamper resistant prescription paper is widely available. Prescribers should check with their current paper or prescription supplier.

All prescribers must use Board approved tamper-resistant prescription paper or pads (TRPP) beginning July 1, 2010.

Washington State Board of Pharmacy approved TRPP is widely available and easily recognized by the Board’s seal of approval. View a sample prescription form and other prescription information above.

The new law does not affect prescriptions given to the pharmacy by telephone, by electronic transmission, by fax, or for in-patient care.
