The Office of Infectious Disease and Reproductive Health (IDRH) protects and improves the health of Washington State residents by providing medical and administrative direction, coordination, technical assistance, disease surveillance and advocacy for issues and services related to the prevention and treatment of STDs, TB, HIV, adult viral hepatitis, chronic Hepatitis B and C, and reproductive health.

The Office includes the following six programs:

The programs perform several important functions for their topic areas:

  • Develop and advise on policy and legislative issues;
  • Provide disease prevention and early intervention services;
  • Conduct disease surveillance and program evaluation;
  • Monitor disease trends; and,
  • Conduct research and analysis and disseminate data. 

The Office works closely with various advisory and community groups who provide services and/or guidance to Washington State residents. This work helps to protect and improve public health by doing the following:

  • Develops collaborations with local public health providers to assure disease control;
  • Facilitates communication among and between community partners, state agencies, advocacy groups, and individuals;
  • Provides connection to national issues and programs;
  • Ensures cultural competence of programs; and,
  • Aligns IDRH with the DOH strategic plan.
