Flu Season 2011-2012 Supply and Distribution

The Department of Health purchases and distributes seasonal flu vaccine for kids aged 6 months through 18 years in Washington State. This page contains seasonal flu vaccine supply updates and information.

Current Supply Updates

  • November 7, 2011
    • Washington’s thirteenth and final shipment allocation for the 2011-2012 flu season is available.
    • The total shipment allocation includes 17,110 doses of the MedImmune FluMist nasal sprayer presentation.
    • Local health jurisdiction (LHJ) staff should update the “shipment 13 allocation” line on the tracking spreadsheet to include the new LHJ allocation. If you have questions or need help updating the spreadsheet, please contact Mike Bin at 360-236-3611.
    • Availability status to date:
      • 0.25mL Fluzone: 189,080 doses (100%) have been allocated and 135,080 doses have been ordered. Available for ordering: 54,000 doses.
      • 5.0mL multi-dose Fluzone: 396,930 doses (100%) have been allocated and 213,340 doses have been ordered. Available for ordering: 183,590 doses.
      • FluMist nasal spray availability: 190,020 doses (100%) have been allocated and 106,620 doses have been ordered. Available for ordering: 83,400 doses.
      • 0.5mL single dose Fluvirin: 10,000 doses (100%) have been allocated and 5520 doses have been ordered. Available for ordering: 4480 doses.

    • Washington’s twelfth shipment allocation for the 2011-2012 flu season is available.
    • The total shipment allocation includes additional doses of the MedImmune FluMist nasal sprayer presentation.

    • Washington’s eleventh shipment allocation for the 2011-2012 flu season is available.
    • The total shipment allocation includes 11,320 doses of the Fluzone 0.25mL pediatric presentation.

    • The total shipment allocation includes 111,770 doses of the Fluzone 5.0mL multi-dose presentation.

    • The total shipment allocation includes 53,420 doses of the Fluzone 0.25mL pediatric presentation and 148,250 doses of the Fluzone 5.0mL multi-dose presentation.

  • August 18, 2011
    • Washington’s second shipment allocation for the 2011-2012 flu season is available.
    • The total shipment allocation includes 15,170 doses of the Fluzone 0.25mL, pediatric presentation and 136,910 doses of the Fluzone 5.0mL, multi-dose presentation.
    • LHJ staff should update the “shipment 2 allocation” line on the tracking spreadsheet to include the new LHJ allocation. If you have questions or need help updating the spreadsheet, please contact Mike Bin.
    • As always, if your LHJ will not use a particular presentation or does not need the full amount of your allocation, please let us know as soon as possible.
    • Please contact us if you need more flu vaccine any time during the season. We'll work with you to accommodate your need to the best of our ability.
      o The state-supplied flu 2011-2012 order set must be selected from the order set dropdown list to place flu vaccine orders online. The presentations that are currently available have been added to this order set. We'll continue to add other flu presentations as they become available for ordering at McKesson.
    • Flu vaccine orders may be submitted outside of a provider’s assigned Economic Order Quantity schedule.
    • Availability status to date:
      • 0.25mL Fluzone: 36,000 doses (19%) have been allocated and 12,100 doses have been ordered. Available for ordering: 23,900 doses.
      • 5.0mL multi-dose Fluzone: 136,910 doses (34%) of the Fluzone 5.0mL, multi-dose presentation are now available for ordering.
      • FluMist nasal spray availability: The first allocation is expected within the next week.
      • 0.5mL single dose Fluvirin: The first allocation is expected to be available in September.
  • August 1, 2011
    • We're pleased to announce the earliest availability of seasonal childhood flu vaccine on record for Washington’s childhood vaccine program.
    • This shipment allocation includes 20,830 doses of the 0.25mL Fluzone Pediatric presentation. This allocation is now available to order.
    • To make sure we don't go over our flu vaccine allocations, we're asking each LHJ to monitor their allocations.
    • An order and allocation tracking spreadsheet was distributed to each LHJ. The spreadsheet allows you to track the number of doses requested by and approved for each of your providers.
    • If your LHJ will not use a particular presentation or does not need the full amount of your allocation, please let us know as soon as possible.
    • We'll monitor the up-take of vaccines throughout the season and seek opportunities to get more vaccine if necessary. Please contact us if you need more flu vaccine any time during the season, and we'll work with you to accommodate your need to the best of our ability.

State-Supplied Seasonal Flu Vaccine

The Washington State Childhood Vaccine Program currently supplies the following seasonal flu vaccines for the 2011-2012 season. For more information, see the Immunization Guidelines for the Use of State-Supplied Vaccine (PDF, 88KB) July 1, 2011.

Influenza Fluzone sanofi pasteur

Preservative-free, 10x1 single-dose, pre-filled syringe (0.25mL). For ages six months up to the third birthday.

Influenza Fluzone sanofi pasteur Multi-dose vial (5mL). For ages three years up to the nineteenth birthday.
Influenza FluMist MedImmune Preservative-free, 10x1 single-dose, intranasal spray (0.2mL). For ages two years up to the nineteenth birthday.
Influenza Fluvirin Novartis Preservative-free, 10x1 single-dose syringe (0.5mL). Priority is pregnant adolescents less than 19 years. If supply is sufficient for this group, use for kids aged four up to the nineteenth birthday.
