Maternal and Infant HealthWhat does Maternal and Infant Health do?
The program's priority areas include pregnancy planning, access to prenatal care, domestic violence during pregnancy, smoking cessation, alcohol and drug use during pregnancy, breast feeding, nutrition, sleep position, environmental exposure to tobacco smoke, and provider education. Maternal and Infant Health accomplishes its work in four major areasGathers data about characteristics of pregnant and postpartum women, services they use and services that would be helpful. Assessment activities enable health care professionals and community partners to understand the needs of women and infants, plan programs and services, and develop policies to promote maternal and infant health. Maternal and Infant Health provides best practice materials and other resources for health care professionals on a variety of topics to improve quality of care for women and infants.
