Access and Care Coordination
Project LAUNCH
Washington State Department of Health is one of the first states in
the country awarded the Project LAUNCH (Linking Actions
for Unmet Needs in Children's Health)
federal grant. Yakima County Department of Community Services is our
chosen local area partner. The project is a five year grant, which
began September 2008.
Work in Yakima County builds on the investment of the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation, Thrive by Five Washington, Ready by Five
in east Yakima, and Kids Matter.
Services to children (Birth to 8) and families in Yakima through
Project LAUNCH include a range of evidence-based practices that
promote young child wellness in the following areas:

Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation: consultation to
in-home and center-based child care providers to strengthen social
emotional development in early learning settings.

Incredible Years: Family strengthening classes for parents of young children.

Parents as Teachers: Home visiting program for pregnant women and
mothers of children up to age 3 in the lower valley area of Yakima
County.

Strengthening Multi-Ethnic Families and Communities, also known
as Strong Families: Family strengthening class for parents of young
children.

Valley Intervention Program: Children with behavior concerns and their families work with a mental health therapist to learn positive behavior management skills.

Positive Behavior Support: A therapist works with individual children and families to reduce challenging behaviors and teach behavior management skills.
Through Project LAUNCH, many of these services have been made available in Spanish.
Developmental Screening
Project LAUNCH collaborates with a group of state-level partners
to create and implement a plan for universal developmental screening
in Washington State. We will share more information as it becomes
available.
