Primary PreventionMore than a third of people in Washington have
pre-diabetes. People with pre-diabetes have a higher risk of
developing type 2 diabetes. The Diabetes Prevention and Control
Program works with partners to help people prevent diabetes
through policy, environmental and system changes in communities.
YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program:People who have pre-diabetes can prevent type 2 diabetes by making lifestyle changes, such as learning to eat healthier and getting more physical activity. The program funds and advises four Activate America programs in YMCAs across Washington to include diabetes prevention programs in the community.
