Maternal, Infant, Child and Adolescent Health
Local
and State Partners
Perinatal
Advisory Committee is staffed by Maternal
and Infant Health
and brings together representatives from the four regional perinatal
programs, professional organizations, consumer groups, and state
agencies to review and assess perinatal health issues and assist in
developing policies and practices to improve perinatal outcomes.
WIC
serves pregnant women and children up to age five. The program is co-located
with many First Steps agencies. For more information, call

Infectious
Disease and Reproductive Health Office:
Maternal and Infant Health works closely with the
HIV and the
Family Planning Reproductive
Health programs within the Office of Infectious Disease Reproductive
Health. Collaborative activities are focused on reducing HIV and
unintended pregnancy, and promoting preconceptional care.
Local
Health Departments:
Maternal and Infant Health program staff work closely with local health departments to oversee
contract activities and provide consultation and technical assistance
when needed.
Department
of Social and Health Services partners with Maternal and Infant Health
in an effort to serve similar
groups of people and share similar goals related to the health of
Washington State citizens.
Medicaid Purchasing Administration is
within the Department of Social and Health Services. They
contract with Maternal and Infant Health to assist in the management of
the
First
Steps Program, which includes Maternity Support Services and
Infant Case Management and Childbirth Education. Medicaid
Purchasing Administration also partners with Maternal, Infant, Child and
Adolescent Health
for the WithinReach contract, the Department
of Health
Tobacco Quit Line, and the Perinatal Regional Programs.
University
of Washington School of Nursing provides educational resources for
Maternal and Infant Health and other Maternal and Child Health
professionals across the state, including:
- Stepping Up: Prevention
Strategies for Pregnancy, Parenting and Infancy is a website for
maternal and child health care providers state wide which provides scientific
information, best practice suggestions, and intervention strategies
regarding prenatal care, health education, unstable family situations,
and newborn care.
- NCAST-AVENUW is a self sustaining program at the University of
Washington affiliated with the School of Nursing and the Center on Human
Development and Disability and the Center on Infant Mental Health and
Development. They disseminate and develop innovative
researched based products and training programs for practitioners and
researchers in many disciplines and settings which can be used with
normally developing children, those at risk for developmental delay,
and those diagnosed with special needs. NCAST-AVENUW's mission is
to provide educational materials and training to professionals, parents,
and other caregivers to increase knowledge and skills in providing
nurturing environments for young children.
