Radiological Emergency Preparedness
The REP section maintains the plans and procedures for the Department's response to all radiological emergencies. For emergencies involving facilities that maintain a large inventory of radiological materials and have an established radiological emergency response plan (FNFs or Fixed Nuclear Facilities), the department uses its Radiological Emergency Response Plan and Procedures manual. For all other incidents including weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), the department uses its WMD/Non-FNF Incident Response Plan and Procedures manual. The REP section provides training to first responders and any agency who may respond to emergencies potentially involving radioactive materials. REP has an outreach program to provide "Weapons of Mass Destruction Awareness Training," "Radiation Basics," and instrument use to local public health and medical facility staff, law enforcement, fire fighters, emergency medical technicians, and other first responders. If interested in receiving training from the Department of Health please contact Al Conklin or phone 360-236-3261. Emergency Preparedness Partners State Radiological Emergency Preparedness Agencies Note while most Radiation Control Programs are part of the state health agencies, not all Radiological Emergency Preparedness programs are under the Radiation Control Programs.
