Fish Consumption Advisories by Waterbody

The following fish eating advisories by local waterbodies are for everyone, especially women who are pregnant or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children. Follow these advisories, choose fish that are low in contaminants, and prepare and cook fish properly to reduce your exposure to contaminants in fish.

Benton County

Yakima River

Contaminant - PCBs

Advice - Limit Common Carp (from the City of Prosser to the mouth of the river near Richland) to 1 meal per week.

Women who are or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should also follow the Statewide Mercury Advisory.

Materials:

 

 

Chelan County

Lake Chelan

Contaminant - DDT

Advice - Limit Lake Trout (Mackinaw) to 1 meal per week.

Women who are or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should also follow the Statewide Mercury Advisory.

Materials:

 

Wenatchee River

Contaminant - PCBs

Advice - Don't eat Mountain Whitefish.

Women who are or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should also follow the Statewide Mercury Advisory.

Materials:

 

 

Clark County

Lower Columbia River

Contaminant - PCBs

Advice - Don't eat freshwater clams near and downstream of the former Valance plant (5710 NW Lower River Road, Vancouver), river mile 103.

Women who are or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should also follow the Statewide Mercury Advisory.

 

 

Ferry, Stevens, and Lincoln County

Upper Columbia River / Lake Roosevelt

Contaminant - Mercury

Advice - Women who are or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should limit Burbot (Freshwater Cod) and Largescale Sucker to 1 meal per week and Walleye to 2 meals per month.

King County

Green Lake

Contaminant - PCBs

Advice - Limit Carp to 1 meal per month.

Women who are or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should also follow the Statewide Mercury Advisory.

 

Lake Washington

Contaminant - PCBs

Advice - Don't eat Northern Pikeminnow and Carp. Limit Yellow Perch to 1 meal per week and Cutthroat Trout to 1 meal per month.

Women who are or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should also follow the Statewide Mercury Advisory.

Materials:

 

Lower Duwamish River

Contaminant - PCBs

Advice - Don't eat crab, shellfish, or resident fish from the Lower Duwamish Waterway.

Chum, Coho, Pink, and Sockeye Salmon are okay to eat 2-3 meals per week. Limit Chinook Salmon to 1 meal per week and Blackmouth (resident Puget Sound Chinook) to 2 meals per month.

Women who are or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should also follow the Statewide Mercury Advisory.

Okanogan County

Okanogan River

Contaminant - DDT and PCBs

Advice - Limit Carp to 1 meal per month from the lower Okanogan River (from Malott Bridge south to the Columbia River and Brewster Bridge east to the southeast corner of Chief Joseph State Park).

Women who are or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should also follow the Statewide Mercury Advisory.

Materials:

 

 

Puget Sound

Puget Sound fish consumption advisories are grouped by recreational marine areas. The main contaminants of concern are PCBs and mercury.

 

 

Spokane County

Spokane River

Contaminant - PCBs, PBDEs, and Lead

Advice - Idaho Border to Upriver Dam: Don't eat any fish.

Upriver Dam to 9 Mile Dam: Don't eat Largescale Sucker and limit all other fish to 1 meal per month.

Lake Spokane (Long Lake): Limit Largescale Sucker and Brown Trout to 1 meal per month. Limit Mountain Whitefish to 1 meal per week.

Women who are or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should also follow the Statewide Mercury Advisory.

Walla Walla County

Walla Walla River

Contaminant - PCBs

Advice - Limit Carp from the lower Walla Walla River and Northern Pikeminnow from the upper Walla Walla River to 1 meal per month.

Women who are or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should also follow the Statewide Mercury Advisory.

Whatcom County

Lake Whatcom

Contaminant - Mercury

Advice - Women who are or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should not eat Smallmouth Bass and limit Yellow Perch to 1 meal per week.
