Food Microbiology

The PHL Food Laboratory works in conjunction with the Office of Epidemiology and the Office of Shellfish Safety and Water Protection to respond to foodborne outbreaks.  The PHL Food Laboratory also tests oyster samples during the summer harvest season for the presence or absence of Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Oyster testing is done following the Nation Shellfish Sanitation Program (NSSP) guidance document and in accordance with the Washington State Interim Control Plan (ICP).
