MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTICS

Working together with the Molecular Epidemiologist on staff, the Microbiology laboratories have been able to collaborate with local, national and international universities, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, GA, as well as other state public health laboratories to implement new types of DNA based technology having an application to public health.  The new technologies currently in development and use include PFGE, PCR, fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH), RiboPrinting and TaqMan (a real-time PCR).
