The Public Health
Laboratories mailroom receives specimens and
samples from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.,
Monday through Friday. Saturday deliveries
can be accepted by prior arrangement. The
mailroom staff provides services in the
receiving area such as distribution,
collection-kit preparation and shipping,
glassware, and dishwashing.
As part of the
receiving department, mailroom staff process
specimens and samples coming into the Public
Health labs and distributes them to the
appropriate laboratory for testing. The
mailroom also processes orders for specimen
kits from hospitals, clinics, and health
departments across Washington State. Some
of the specimen kits that are sent out
include:
- B. Pertussis
- Chlamydia
- Mycobacteriology
(TB)
- Virology influenza
- Enteric
Bacteriology
- Ova and Parasites
- Rabies

In addition to the
kits, supplies such as forms, Biohazard
bags, and mailing containers are sent out to
ensure safe shipments of the specimens and
samples to the Public Health Laboratories.
The mailroom is also responsible for the
shipping of packages and postal mail via
UPS, FedEx and USPS.
