Welcome to the home page of the Hospital and Patient Data Section of the Center for Health Statistics. HPDS is responsible for collecting and publishing critical information that is needed to help Washingtonians live healthier lives.

By providing access to current, high quality health data that covers community hospitals in Washington State, CHS\HPDS enables people to make better informed decisions about healthcare and health plans. These data are also used by policy makers, health professionals, community-based organizations, and researchers to understand trends, identify high risk populations (and geographic areas), set prevention priorities, and plan targeted health promotion strategies. 

We have grouped our data into three sections as shown on the far left; Patient Information which has data relevant to hospital inpatients, Hospital Discharge Data, which has data relevant to hospital charge comparison and Hospital Financial which has information on hospital financial and utilization.

Particular data sets at CHS\HPDS include: CHARS the inpatient discharge database that describes the individual patients  hospital stay, the Financial database which describes the year to year audited financial and utilization history of the hospital and the Quarterly database which describes the un-audited quarter to quarter financial and utilization history of the hospital.

Data are distributed as raw data sets, statistical tabulations, web pages and through printed reports, including Washington State  Charity Care in Washington Hospitals. We at the Center for Health Statistics are proud of the effort put into capturing, analyzing and providing quality data.
