Provider Inquiries

This information will help you decide if you’re eligible for an interface with the Child Profile Immunization Registry.

 General information on Meaningful Use:

More information on Meaningful Use Rules and Eligibility for Incentives is online at:

·         The Official Web Site for the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Records (EHR) Incentive Programs

·         Washington State's Medicaid EHR Incentive Program

Health care providers who do NOT give immunizations:

See the Washington State Medicaid Office website

The Child Profile Immunization Registry only works with health care providers who give vaccines. Immunization registries represent only one of three public health Meaningful Use criteria. The other two criteria are syndromic surveillance and lab reporting. For more information on these two options, go to the Department of Health's Health IT website or contact Dr. Bryant Karras, Washington State Department of Health Meaningful Use Coordinator.

If none of the public health options apply to your office, you may be eligible for an exclusion. See the websites above for more information.

Health care providers who give immunizations:

If you want to meet the public health requirement for Meaningful Use through the exchange of immunization records with the Child Profile Immunization Registry, you must:

·         Be eligible for Meaningful Use (an Eligible Professional or Eligible Hospital per CMS guidelines ).

·         Use EHR technology certified for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs. See a list of certified EHR systems .

·         Give vaccines.

If you meet these requirements, review the CMS document on immunization registries.

For primary care providers:

Get more Meaningful Use information and support from the Washington-Idaho Regional Extension Center.

Contact Child Profile [cphelpdesk@kingcounty.gov] at 1-800-325-5599 when you’re ready to set up a data exchange with the Child Profile Immunization Registry.

Please note that provider requests to set up a data exchange will be handled on a first-come-first-serve basis. Those providers who are already enrolled in the Child Profile Immunization Registry will be given higher priority than those not yet enrolled.

 Electronic Health Record Inquiries

The following information will help you decide on next steps.

Electronic Health Record (EHR) vendors who seek certification:
Go to the ONC-Approved Testing & Certification Bodies website.

EHR vendors who want to develop an HL7 interface with the Child Profile Immunization Registry:
You must have at least one provider in Washington State who uses your Meaningful Use certified product. The provider must:

·         Give vaccines.

·         Be enrolled in the Child Profile system in order for us to work with you on development of an interface. Involvement of the provider is required in order to start work on the interface. The Meaningful Use standard requires VXU messaging and CVX coding for vaccines.

If you meet these requirements, ask the interested provider to contact Child Profile [cphelpdesk@kingcounty.gov] at 1-800-325-5599.
