Legislative and Constituent Relations serves as the Department’s principal liaison with federal and state legislators and legislative staff, other state and federal agencies, the Governor’s office, and constituency groups. This area analyzes and develops legislation and oversees the progress of Department requests through the legislative process. Policy assists in, coordinating public health policy development processes throughout the Department; identifying priority and emerging issues for the Secretary and agency senior management; and evaluating the impacts of changes in federal and state health policy. The office’s policy development coordinators manage project teams within the agency and serve on both intra and interagency policy development workgroups. Regulatory Oversight manages the agency’s rule development process by tracking rule activities, setting agency standards, and providing technical assistance to agency rule staff. In addition, staff analyzes legislative proposals that may require rule development, assists programs with cost benefit analysis, and provide other economic consultation. Consumer Assistance provides information and referrals in response to questions from consumers, legislators, legislative staff, and employees of state, local, and federal agencies. Tribal/Multicultural serves as the Department’s principal liaison for the twenty-nine federally recognized tribes in Washington State. This area addresses Government–to–Government responsibilities in accordance with the Centennial Accord and the New Millennium Agreement.
