Town of Darrington rescinds boil water advisory for customers
OLYMPIA – The town of Darrington is advising all its water customers that it is no longer necessary to boil their drinking water. Recent test samples show the absence of coliform bacteria.
"We wanted to be sure the water customers were protected, so we recommended that customers either boil their water or purchase bottled water as a precaution," said Robert James, northwest regional manager for the Washington State Department of Health’s Division of Drinking Water. The town experienced a loss of water pressure on January 30 following a major water main break. Darrington crews repaired the water main and the system was back on line the next day.
James said that the town has completed inspections, water quality sampling, disinfection, and flushing to resolve any potential contamination problem. More than 1,200 people in 502 households are served by Darrington’s water system.
If customers shut off or did not use fixtures, water fountains, ice machines, soda machines, and/or other equipment over the past several days, the Department of Health recommends flushing the fixture or equipment until there is a change in water temperature before putting it back into service.
Customers with questions may call the Darrington Town Hall at 360-436-1131.
