State Department of Health reaches settlement with a Hoodsport inn

OLYMPIA ¾ The owner of the Divers Inn in Hoodsport has agreed to surrender the license that allows operation of the facility as a transient accommodation in the state of Washington. On February 3, 2003, the Department of Health issued a summary suspension against the transient accommodation license due to notification that the Inn’s water and septic system were not approved for volumes that occur with commercial use.

Commercial use requirements are needed because of the increased sewage flows and water demand associated with higher volume use. These requirements are intended to prevent a septic system failure and potential subsequent fecal contamination of nearby wells and surface water.

The owner has notified the department that the facility is being used as a vacation house rental, and is no longer in use as a transient accommodation (inn). A transient accommodation license is required only if three or more lodging units are offered to guests for periods of less than month.

The responsibilities of the Facilities and Services Licensing program of the Washington State Department of Health include licensing more than 1,700 motels, hotels, inns, resorts, and bed-and-breakfast facilities in the state, and enforcing health and safety standards for those establishments.
