Motels and hotels operating without a valid license
OLYMPIA ¾ Facilities and Services Licensing (FSL) of the Washington State Department of Health is issuing a notice to the public identifying transient accommodations (TA) throughout Washington that are operating without a valid license. A TA is defined as a facility offering three or more units to guests for less than 30 days, such as hotels, motels, and resorts.
The following Washington hotels and motels listed by county are operating without a valid license because they have not completed the renewal process:
Lincoln: McLaughlin's Purple Sage Motel, 405 E 1st Street, Sprague.
Skagit: Whispering Firs Bed and Breakfast, 19357 Kanako Lane, Mount Vernon.
Transient accommodations are required by law to complete the renewal process by the license expiration date. If the renewal is not completed by the expiration date, the Department of Health sends a reminder that grants an additional 34 days to complete the renewal process and includes a late fee of $50 in addition to renewal application and licensing fee. On the 35th day, a Notice to Cease Operations is sent to the TA. These businesses have failed to comply, exhausted all opportunities to renew, and are no longer licensed.
City and county authorities, Better Business Bureau offices, and local Chambers of Commerce have also been notified that these facilities are operating without a valid license.
FSL is responsible for licensing about 1,700 motels, hotels, inns, resorts, and bed-and-breakfast facilities in the state, and enforces health and safety standards for those establishments.
