Two motels in King and Kittitas Counties are operating without a license
OLYMPIA ¾ The state Department of Health is notifying the public that Back Bay Inn in King County and Thunderbird Motel in Kittitas County are both operating without a valid license. Back Bay Inn is in the community of Vashon; Thunderbird Motel is in Ellensburg. According to the department’s Facilities and Services Licensing program, motels offering three or more units to guests for less than 30 days must be licensed.
Motels are required by law to complete the license renewal process by the expiration date; the Back Bay Inn and the Thunderbird Motel did not complete these renewals. They were granted an additional 34 days to complete the process and were charged fees. On August 9, 2005 a Notice to Cease Operations was sent to the motels; however, they continue to operate without a license. The motels may re-apply for licensure by sending in an initial application.
City and county authorities, Better Business Bureau offices and local Chambers of Commerce have also been notified that the Back Bay Inn at 24007 Vashon Hwy SW in Vashon and the Thunderbird Motel at 403 University Way in Ellensburg are operating without a valid license.
Facilities and Services Licensing is responsible for licensing about 1,700 motels, hotels, inns, resorts and bed-and-breakfast facilities in the state, and enforces health and safety standards for those establishments.
