OLYMPIA ¾ The Department of Health has revoked the naturopathic and chiropractic licenses of Barbara Loran (NT00000955; CH00002715) after she failed to respond to charges or show up for a prehearing conference after her licenses were suspended (http://www.doh.wa.gov/Publicat/2005_news/05-061.htm) in May 2005.

Loran knowingly allowed James King, who had no license to practice as a health care provider, to perform chiropractic and medical services on patients. The Department issued a Cease and Desist Order against King in July 2005. He agreed to cease practicing without a license and was fined $10,000.

Loran and King also engaged in sexual contact with female patients, including a patient who was a minor at the time. In addition, Loran’s recordkeeping did not sufficiently document services provided to patients.

Consumers who believe a health care provider acted unprofessionally are encouraged to call Health Professions Quality Assurance, 360-236-4700 to report their complaint.

Health Professions Quality Assurance regulates health care providers in Washington. The division monitors and enforces qualifications for licensing, registration or certification, consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms and discipline. Rules, policies and procedures promote the delivery of quality health care to state residents.
