Applications sought by Medical Quality Assurance Commission; seeking licensed health professionals and public members
OLYMPIA ¾ The Department of Health is accepting applications from physicians and physician assistants and public members for the Washington State Medical Quality Assurance Commission. Members are appointed by the governor to serve up to two four-year terms. Applications should be submitted by Jan. 15, 2006.
The responsibilities of the Medical Commission’s members are to protect the public by establishing licensing requirements for physicians and physician assistants; creating and adopting rules; reviewing consumer complaints; and serving on disciplinary hearing panels. Members must be willing to attend regular meetings, study the issues and make decisions in the public interest. The Medical Commission meets for two days, eight times a year. Members are paid $250 day and are reimbursed for travel expenses.
There are four physician openings, representing: Congressional District 3, Congressional District 5, Congressional District 8 and one at-large position. There are positions open for a physician assistant and member of the public. Public members may not be serving on any other health care licensing board or commission, have a financial obligation to a facility regulated by the commission, or have a material or financial interest in services regulated by the commission.
The governor’s office recognizes the value diversity brings in understanding and serving the people of our state. Applications are available on the Governor's Web site (www.governor.wa.gov/actions/appointments/boards/application.doc). Contact Beverly Thomas, program manager (beverly.thomas@doh.wa.gov), 360-236-4788 for more information.
