Prairie Elementary School health advisory lifted

OLYMPIA ¾ The Prairie Elementary School in the Yelm School District is advising its teachers, staff and students that it is again safe to use the school drinking water. Recent tests of the water have shown that it contains no coliform bacteria and meets water quality standards.

School Facilities Director Erling Birkland said, "We have cleaned, disinfected, and flushed the school reservoir and service lines and based on the results of bacterial tests have determined that it is again safe to drink. We are pleased to lift the advisory that had been issued on November 25, 2005."

The school district and the water system operator have been working closely with the state Department of Health Office of Drinking Water since the situation developed. Repairs to the school’s water storage facilities will help maintain drinking water quality in the future.

All water taps or other fixtures that have not been used since the advisory was issued, or had not been used over the past two days, were flushed to assure that the chlorinated water was removed from the local plumbing.

The Prairie Elementary School encourages anyone with questions to call 360-458-6128.
