Olympia physician suspended for sexual misconduct with patients
OLYMPIA - The Washington State Medical Commission has immediately suspended the license of physician Jitesh Chawla (MD00044182) on allegations of sexual contact with patients and providing care that fell below standard. Chawla may not practice as a physician pending the outcome of a hearing.
According to the statement of charges, Chawla inappropriately touched three female patients; one was a minor. During examinations, Chawla pressed his groin against the women’s buttocks and touched one woman’s breasts. The charges also allege Chawla punctured a patient’s lung while giving her an injection and later failed to recognize signs and symptoms indicating the serious complication. Chawla has been charged in Thurston County Superior Court with three counts of indecent liberties.
The statement of charges and summary order in this case are available by calling 360-236-4700 or online by clicking the link to “Provider Credential Search” on the agency home page (www.doh.wa.gov/).
The Washington State Medical Quality Assurance Commission regulates physicians and physician assistants in Washington. The program establishes, monitors, and enforces qualifications for licensing, consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms and discipline. Rules, policies and procedures promote the delivery of quality health care to state residents.
