Unnecessary spinal surgeries performed on patients - physician suspended
OLYMPIA ¾ A Seattle physician’s license was suspended by the Washington State Medical Quality Assurance Commission for harming patients he operated on. Solomon Kamson (MD00021337) may not practice medicine, pending the outcome of a hearing.
According to the statement of charges, Kamson performed spinal surgeries on three patients even though their conditions did not require surgery; those patients were permanently injured. Kamson told patients he was the only physician in Washington qualified to perform the procedures. Kamson failed to adequately inform the patient of the risks associated with the procedures, including permanent paralysis. He also failed to tell the patients he does not have the same experience and knowledge as a fully trained surgeon. Kamson has 10 days to request a prompt hearing and 20 days to respond to the statement of charges.
The statement of charges and summary documents are available online by clicking the link to "Provider Credential Search" on the Department of Health home page (www.doh.wa.gov/) or by calling 360-236-4700. Anyone who believes a health care provider acted unprofessionally is encouraged to call that number to report their complaint.
The Medical Quality Assurance Commission regulates physicians and physician assistants in Washington. The program establishes, monitors and enforces qualifications for licensing, consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms and discipline. Rules, policies and procedures promote the delivery of quality health care to state residents.
