Sexual contact with patients leads to suspension for nurse in Pierce County
OLYMPIA ¾ Charges of sexually touching patients and substandard care have resulted in the immediate suspension of a Steilacoom-area registered nurse’s license to practice. The Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission and the Department of Health took the action against the license of Dean Miller (RN00125628), who cannot practice or be employed as a registered nurse, pending resolution of the charges.
The statement of charges alleges Miller inappropriately touched two patients. In addition, Miller discharged one of the patients even though she felt unsteady after receiving narcotics. After the patient collapsed on the pavement outside the emergency room, Miller allegedly sent her home in a taxi without assessing her condition any further.
Miller has an opportunity to respond to the charges and to request a hearing. The statement of charges and summary order in this case are available by calling 360-236-4700 or online by clicking the link to "Provider Credential Search" on the agency home page (www.doh.wa.gov/).
The Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission protects and promotes public health, safety and welfare in Washington by regulating the competency and quality of (profession type). The program establishes, monitors, and enforces qualifications for licensing, consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms and discipline. Rules, policies, and procedures developed by the commission promote the delivery of quality health care to people in our state.
