City of Montesano boil water advisory lifted

OLYMPIA ¾ The City of Montesano is advising its customers it is no longer necessary to boil their drinking water. Water samples collected in the last two days show the absence of coliform bacteria and increased residual chlorine levels. This means the water is safe to consume.

"We have worked with the Department of Health to complete inspections, take samples and fix the contamination problem. The city will continue to maintain a protective level of disinfection throughout the system, and we are pleased to be able to lift the boil water advisory. We want to thank our customers for their patience while we worked through this," said Dick Stone, Montesano Mayor.

Denise Lahmann, Southwest Regional Office Manager for the state drinking water program said, "It is important for water systems to closely monitor their chlorination treatment and chlorine levels in the water mains at all times. This is especially important when we have high rainfall and significant construction activities like what has been occurring in Montesano."

Lahmann recommends if you have shut off or not used your fixtures, water fountains, ice makers, or other facilities within the past several days, you should flush them. Do not drink or use any water until you feel a change in water temperature; this indicates clean water from the main has reached your faucet.

If you have questions, please call the City of Montesano at 360-249-3021 or Grays Harbor County Public Services at 360-249-4413.
