Pierce County water system under boil water advisory
OLYMPIA ¾ The Lake of the Woods community club water system on Pierce County’s Gig Harbor peninsula is advising members to boil their drinking water after recent tests showed the presence of coliform bacteria. The state Department of Health is working with the water utility to fix the problem.
Lake of the Woods serves 343 connections and a population of about 860. No illnesses have been reported.
"We’re very pleased with the responsiveness of the Lake of the Woods water system. They quickly addressed the problem and notified their members," said Bob James, director of the department’s northwest regional drinking water office.
Bottled or boiled water should be used for any drinking, ice-making, teeth-brushing, food preparation, or dish washing. Tap water should be boiled for 3-5 minutes then cooled before use.
The advisory will remain in effect until further testing shows no sign of contamination.
Other information and publications about drinking water and coliform bacteria are available on the Department of Health Web site (www.doh.wa.gov/ehp/dw). Customers with questions can contact the utility at 253-884-9256.
