Tieton boil water advisory lifted
OLYMPIA ¾ The City of Tieton is telling its customers that it is no longer necessary to boil their drinking water or purchase bottled water. Broken lines and leaks, which led to a loss of pressure and a system-wide outage during the week of November 13, have been repaired.
The system has been disinfected, flushed, and tested for the presence of coliform bacteria. Water samples for fecal coliform, taken since November 20, showed satisfactory results.
City workers are posting letters on the doors of residences today and tomorrow to let customers know the water is okay to drink. The Yakima County Health Department has had no reports of illness related to the situation.
"The problems with our water mains resulted in a very difficult situation," said Tieton Mayor Norma Joiner. "Before lifting the health advisory, we wanted to make sure all the leaks were repaired, the pipes could withstand pressure without further leaks, and that the water in the system met drinking water standards. We want to thank nearby water utilities for the help they provided. We have great neighbors."
City and state officials will continue to work toward securing funds necessary to address the community’s pressing water infrastructure needs.
