Airway Heights nursing assistant suspended for child molestation conviction
OLYMPIA ¾ The license of an Airway Heights nursing assistant has been immediately suspended by the Washington State Department of Health following her conviction for child molestation. It’s the first suspension under the state’s new system that compares criminal convictions records to the names of licensed health care providers in Washington.
Pamela Vandersnick may not practice as a nursing assistant, based on a criminal conviction of third-degree child molestation — a class C felony. Vandersnick was jailed on the conviction and released in September.
Under legislation passed in 2006, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) reports certain felony convictions to the state health department each quarter. The information is compared to the agency’s licensee database. These convictions include crimes such as homicide, assault, kidnapping or sex offenses.
Vandersnick’s conviction was included in the first report received. Although Vandersnick’s license is expired, this action will prevent her from renewing and working as a nursing assistant.
Vandersnick has an opportunity to respond to the charges against her expired license and may request a hearing. The statement of charges and summary order in this case are available by calling 360-236-4700 or online by clicking the link to "Provider Credential Search" on the agency home page (www.doh.wa.gov).
The Department of Health protects and promotes public health, safety and welfare in Washington by regulating the competency and quality of nursing assistants. The program establishes, monitors, and enforces qualifications for licensing, consistent standards of practice, continuing competency mechanisms and discipline.
