Board to discuss preventing mental illness
Thursday, December 13, 2007, 9 a.m. – 4:15 p.m., King County Council Chamber, 10th Floor, King County Courthouse, 516 Third Avenue, Seattle, WA, 98104

At its meeting Thursday, December 13, in Seattle, the state Board of Health will review and possibly approve the report, “Mental Health—A Public Health Approach: Developing a Prevention-Oriented Mental Health System in Washington State.” The board developed the policy report in cooperation with the Mental Health Transformation Project. The report will provide a foundation for a May 13, 2008 policy summit on promoting mental health and preventing mental illness.

The presentation will take place in the afternoon during a joint session with the King County Board of Health. The two boards will also discuss their current priorities and hear a presentation on mental health services in King County.

Items on the state board’s morning agenda include discussions of its 2007 Annual Report, the 2008 State Health Report and the upcoming legislative session. The board will also hear a briefing on a proposal to update rules governing the cleanup of clandestine drug laboratories.

The meeting is open and the public is invited to provide testimony on any public health issue at 1:50 p.m. Copies of the agenda and related materials are available by contacting the state Board of Health at 360-236-4100 or on the Board of Health Web site (www.sboh.wa.gov). The emergency and media contact number for the board during the meeting is 360-701-2398.
