Bellingham nurse suspended for working while impaired
OLYMPIA ¾ A Bellingham nurse practitioner has been suspended for practicing while under the influence of alcohol.
The Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission and the state Department of Health have immediately suspended the registered nurse and advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP) licenses of Marilyn Butler (RN00067261, AP30006295). She cannot practice or be employed as an RN or ARNP until the substance abuse charges are resolved.
Butler allegedly counseled and prescribed to mental health clients while impaired. Charging documents say her alcohol-use has escalated her impaired behavior in the past few months.
Butler has 10 days to request a prompt hearing and 20 days to respond to the statement of charges. The charging documents are online; click “Provider Credential Search” on the Department of Health Web site (www.doh.wa.gov). The documents are also available by calling 360-236-4700.
The Nursing Commission protects public health and safety in Washington by licensing and disciplining nurses and establishing standards of practice.
