Ryderwood residents asked to boil water

OLYMPIA — Residents of the Ryderwood community in Cowlitz County are being advised to boil their drinking water while repairs are made to their water system.

System operators found a leak in the part of the water supply system that affects the disinfection process. In order to repair the leak, the water system has had to bypass its primary treatment system and use a temporary disinfection process.

While the leak has not caused an interruption of service, it may have compromised the safety of the water because the alternative system is unable to provide the same level of treatment as their primary treatment process. The county is advising the community’s 430-plus residents to boil their water or drink purchased bottled water until repairs are made.

The state Department of Health advises customers to boil water for 3-5 minutes and allow it to cool before using it for drinking, brushing teeth, dishwashing, preparing food and making ice.

Customers who want more information may call Cowlitz County Public Works at 360-577-3030.
