OLYMPIA ¾ A Redmond physical therapist has been suspended on allegations that he used his position to establish personal and sexual relationships with his patients.
The Board of Physical Therapy and the state Department of Health have immediately suspended the license of Gary James Maguire (PT00005702), based on sexual misconduct charges. He cannot practice or be employed as a physical therapist in Washington, pending the outcome of a hearing.
Maguire allegedly had a sexual relationship with a patient in 2007 and has used his position as a physical therapist to facilitate relationships with other patients — including sexual contact.
He has 10 days to request a prompt hearing and 20 days to respond to the statement of charges. The charging documents are available online by clicking “Provider Credential Search” on the agency home page (www.doh.wa.gov). It is also available by calling 360-236-4700.
The Board of Physical Therapy protects and promotes public health, safety and welfare in Washington by regulating the competency and quality of physical therapists. Rules, policies and procedures developed by the board promote the delivery of quality health care to state residents.
