Snohomish County: Kayak Estates water customers urged to boil water
OLYMPIA ¾ The Snohomish Public Utility District (PUD) issued a boil-water advisory today for the 361 households served by the Kayak Estates water system near Stanwood.
The advisory was issued as a precaution after a well-pump failed, causing a temporary water pressure loss to part of the system. A loss in water pressure can allow contaminants to enter water lines.
PUD staff delivered notices to residents in the area surrounding Kayak Point Golf Course today. The affected area is bordered by 172nd Street NW, 66th Avenue NW, 140th Street NW and Puget Sound.
The utility predicts the advisory will remain in effect for several days while crews flush the lines and draw water samples to be tested for contaminants. Meanwhile, residents are encouraged to boil tap water for 3-5 minutes before using it for drinking, brushing teeth, dishwashing, preparing food, or making ice.
"We’re working closely with the PUD to protect public health while the utility makes necessary repairs and upgrades to this recently acquired water system," said Bob James, Northwest regional manager for the state Office of Drinking Water.
Customers who have questions about the advisory can call Snohomish PUD at 425-783-8605.
