OLYMPIA ¾ The license of dentist Jacob A. Kerst (DE00007451) has been immediately suspended for misusing his prescription authority.
The Dental Quality Assurance Commission issued the suspension; it means Kerst cannot practice or be employed as a dentist in Washington, pending the outcome of a hearing.
Charges say in 2007 Kerst ordered hydrocodone with the intent of diverting the drug for his personal use. He also issued prescriptions for controlled substances in the names of at least two patients, and then later split the drugs with the patients. In July 2008 Kerst pleaded guilty to one felony count of unlawfully acquiring a controlled substance relating to these diversions.
Legal documents in this case are available by calling 360-236-4700 or online by clicking the link to “Provider Credential Search” on the agency home page (www.doh.wa.gov).
The Dental Quality Assurance Commission protects and promotes public health, safety, and welfare in Washington by regulating the competency and quality of dentists. Rules, policies, and procedures developed by the Commission promote the delivery of quality health care to state residents.
