Boil water advisory ends for northwestern Kitsap community
OLYMPIA ¾ The West Kitsap Water System has ended a boil water advisory for its customers. The water is safe to drink.
The advisory was issued on Thursday because E. coli bacteria were detected in water quality monitoring samples. The advisory affected more than 616 homes in the Lake Symington area about 12 miles northwest of Bremerton. The West Kitsap Water System includes the Frog Pond and Bridletree water systems.
Customers may notice a chlorine odor in their water. This is because water system operators are chlorinating the water to ensure it’s safe to drink while they work to find the source of the problem and fix it. Chlorine disinfection is an effective way to ensure safe water.
The chlorine treatment will remain in place until the utility and the state Department of Health are confident that the system can reliably produce safe drinking water without it.
Customers who have questions can call the water system at 360-779-7656.
