Boil-water advisory ends for Tapps Island community

OLYMPIA ¾ The Tapps Island Association ended a boil-water advisory for its customers late today. The water is safe to drink.

The health advisory was issued on Friday because coliform bacteria were detected in water quality monitoring samples. The advisory affected 535 homes and 1,500 people on the system in Pierce County.

The association disinfected and flushed the system’s water lines. The water has been tested and it meets safe drinking water standards. The contamination was traced to a bird that got into the system’s water storage reservoir through an unscreened opening. The opening has been repaired.

Customers who have questions can call the Association at 253-862-6616.
