Doctor suspended on charges of alcohol abuse and unusual
behavior
OLYMPIA ¾ The medical license of Sarah S. Reade (MD00034256) has been suspended immediately by the Medical Quality Assurance Commission and the Department of Health.
Reade was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol in late December 2009. Reade’s behavior raised concerns about her ability to practice medicine with reasonable skill and safety due to a mental condition. Charges say she resisted arrest and threatened suicide.
Reade cannot practice medicine in Washington until the charges are resolved. She may request a hearing to challenge the suspension issued by the medical commission.
The Thurston County physician has a history of alcohol abuse. Reade’s license was put on probation by the commission in 2005 for alcohol misuse. She said she had been in a single car accident for driving while drunk; she drove into a tree.
Legal documents in this case are available by calling 360-236-4700 or online by clicking the link to “Provider Credential Search” on the agency home page (www.doh.wa.gov).
The Medical Quality Assurance Commission protects and promotes public health, safety, and welfare in Washington by regulating physicians’ and physician assistants’ competency and quality. The commission develops rules, policies, and procedures to promote delivery of high-quality health care to state residents.
