Composition of the Board

RCW 43.20.030 specifies details of the Washington State Board of Health's composition and appointment. The Board has nine members appointed by the Governor. The tenth member is the Secretary of Health or designee. Required Board membership includes:

An Elected City Official Who is a Member of a Local Health Board

• The Honorable Donna Wright

An Elected County Official Who is a Member of a Local Health Board

• The Honorable John Austin, Ph.D.

Four People Experienced in Matters of Health and Sanitation

• Keith Higman, M.P.H., Chair
• Frankie T. Manning, M.N, R.N.
• Patricia Ortiz, M.D.
• Mel Tonasket

Two People Representing Consumers of Health Care

• Karen VanDusen
• Vacant

A Local Health Officer
