Health Disparities Council to Discuss Process
for Selecting Top 5 Priorities
The Health Disparities Council will hold a brief conference call meeting
on September 10 to allow its members to discuss the scoring process to
prioritize and select the top 5 priorities that will be addressed in its
action plan. The September 10 meeting will provide an opportunity for
members to share thoughts on the process prior to their meeting on September
25. Members of the public are welcome to listen in on the conference call by
attending in person at the Red Lion Hotel in Olympia at 2300 Evergreen Park
Drive SW. A draft

The Council sponsored a community forum on health
equities on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 in Tacoma. A

Health Disparities Council briefed on targeted
environmental scans
At its May 29 meeting, the Council received briefings on efforts to
address the academic achievement gap and a variety of activities and
programs in Washington State at the state or local level to reduce health
disparities. It also discussed criteria and scoring process to select
priority health topics for the state action plan. Other items on the agenda
included information on pregnancy and birth outcomes among Native American
women; a briefing on its outreach activities to ensure that communities of
color have input in the Council’s work; and a discussion on policies and
procedures for advisory committees. A

Health Disparities Council heard legislative
proposals and budget requests
At its February 7 meeting, the
Council received briefings on some activities and programs in Washington
State to reduce health disparities by improving the diversity of the health
care workforce, improving health literacy levels, reducing exposures to
environmental hazards and preventing chronic kidney disease. The Council
also heard updates from its members on legislative proposals and budget
requests. Council members participated via teleconference. The public was
invited to listen to the meeting at the Comfort Inn in Tumwater. A
