The Health Disparities Council will hold a brief conference call meeting on September 10 to allow its members to discuss the scoring process to prioritize and select the top 5 priorities that will be addressed in its action plan. The September 10 meeting will provide an opportunity for members to share thoughts on the process prior to their meeting on September 25. The Council sponsored a community forum on health equities on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 in Tacoma.  A summary of forum proceedings is available.

At its May 29 meeting, the Council received briefings on efforts to address the academic achievement gap and a variety of activities and programs in Washington State at the state or local level to reduce health disparities. It also discussed criteria and scoring process to select priority health topics for the state action plan. Other items on the agenda included information on pregnancy and birth outcomes among Native American women; a briefing on its outreach activities to ensure that communities of color have input in the Council’s work; and a discussion on policies and procedures for advisory committees.  A final agenda and meeting materials are available.
