Sixth Annual Pacific Northwest Border Alliance
Cross Border Workshop
Public Health Resilience: A Collaborative Challenge


On May 26 - 28, 2009, the British Columbia Ministry of Health Services, in collaboration with the Washington State Department of Health, will host the sixth annual bilateral infectious disease surveillance and response workshop.

The Pacific Northwest Border Health Alliance Sixth Annual Cross Border Workshop, will begin on May 26th at 11:00 AM and conclude on May 28th at noon.

This year's theme, Public Health Resilience: A Collaborative Change, will continue the work of building and maintaining cross-border public health surveillance, communication and mutual assistance relationships. Featured will be discussions about the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in British Columbia.

The workshop brings together cross border public health partners in epidemiology surveillance and investigation, public health laboratories, emergency management, emergency medical services, risk communication, public health law and academia.

The disciplines involved include communicable disease epidemiology, surveillance information technology, public health laboratory diagnostics, risk communication, first response, surge capacity, and public health law.

The participating jurisdictions include:

Canada: Federal, provincial/territorial, regional and first nation representation. Invited provinces/territories include: British Columbia, Yukon, Alberta.

United States: Federal, tribal, state and local representation. Invited states include: Washington, Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, North Dakota.

The workshop is being held in Vancouver British Columbia at the Sheraton Wall Centre Hotel.
