Free Hepatitis C Testing

Hepatitis C is a liver disease caused by the Hepatitis C virus (HCV).  It is spread primarily through contact with the blood of someone who has the virus.

• Inject illegal drugs, even if only once many years ago
• Share straws for snorting drugs
• Received clotting factor concentrates made before 1987
• Received a blood transfusion or organ transplant before 1992
• Have ever received long-term hemodialysis treatment
• Have had an occupational exposure to blood
• Are HIV positive
• Got a tattoo or body piercing with unsterilized equipment
• Were born to HCV-positive mother
• Have signs or symptoms of liver disease (e.g., abnormal liver enzyme tests)

If you have any of these risk factors, you may be eligible to receive a free Hepatitis C test. The following organizations are currently providing free tests to those at risk. Call the organization in your area to get further information and to ask about scheduling an appointment.
