"a healthy dose of
information"

The Assessment Unit (AU) provides support to the HIV Prevention and Education program in several ways.  AU staff are members of and provide support to the State Planning Group (SPG), which is responsible for guiding HIV Prevention Community Planning activities for Washington State.  Staff provide state and regional epidemiologic profiles of HIV for the planning process.  They conduct special studies that gather information to support community planning (needs assessments, interview studies) and data from these studies are analyzed and presented to the SPG.  Guidance is provided for conducting needs assessments, community service assessments, and gaps analyses, and technical assistance is provided by staff to the AIDSNet regions.  AU staff also provide consultation on evaluation of prevention programs, including data systems used for evaluation.
