The Assessment Unit supports the STD/TB Services Program by providing epidemiologic expertise in analysis of STD morbidity.  In close collaboration with STD Program staff, the Assessment Unit assists in routine monitoring of incidence for outbreaks and helps to plan responses to STD outbreaks around the state.  Assessment Unit staff prepare the Annual STD Morbidity Report and run custom analyses of STD incidence for local public health jurisdictions and community partners addressing issues of current need in STD prevention.  The Assessment Unit also provides leadership for special retrospective studies – such as investigating HIV and STD co-morbidity and evaluating STD system performance measurement.
