Changes in Varicella (Chickenpox) Requirements

Be sure to follow the recommended varicella requirements for your patients that took effect on July 1, 2008:

• Kindergarten: Kids entering kindergarten in fall 2011 need two doses of varicella vaccine or a health care provider verification/documentation of immunity (required).
• Child Care/Preschool: Kids aged 16 months and older in child care and preschool need one dose of varicella vaccine or a health care provider verification/documentation of immunity (required).
• Parental documentation of history of disease is no longer acceptable.
