Hepatitis B Vaccine
The hepatitis B vaccine is recommended for:
- Kids and adolescents.
- Adults who:
- Are sexual partners of people infected with hepatitis B.
- Are men who have sex with men.
- Inject street drugs.
- Have more than one sexual partner.
- Have chronic liver or kidney disease.
- Have jobs that expose them to human blood.
- Are household contacts of people infected with hepatitis B.
- Are residents and staff in institutions for the developmentally disabled.
- Are kidney dialysis patients.
- Travel to countries where hepatitis B is common.
- Have HIV.
- Want to be protected from hepatitis B infection.
The vaccine should be given:
- To kids at birth. The vaccine series should be completed by 6-18 months.
- To kids and adolescents through age 18 who did not get the
vaccine when they were younger.
- To anyone who is at risk of infection.
