Maps

Service Areas for Joint Commission Primary Stroke Centers

The following maps have been created to show access to IV tPA treatment for the whole region, and for each state in the northwest region. The ground and air transportation times to Joint Commission Primary Stroke Centers (PSC) are shown, where "H" symbolizes each PSC, and population data are based on the 2000 Census tract. Please note the following assumptions that were made:

  • Treatment capable time (180 minutes) = recognition time (20-30 minutes) + transport time (60-90 minutes) + treatment time (60 minutes of ED time)

  • Transport time includes dispatch, scene evaluation, etc.

  • Total treatment capable population = population within driving distance + population within air transport distance

  • The maps show travel time to primary stroke centers only. Other hospitals can and do give IV tPA for stroke. Contact your hospital for more information.
