Moses Lake completed a Healthy Communities Moses Lake Action Plan (External Site), which describes the role of the advisory committee, the result of the community assessment, and the strategies selected as part of an action plan.

The vision of the plan is that residents in the Moses Lake area enjoy active, healthy lifestyles that include nutritious foods, recreation and positive interactions with each other. This will be accomplished through three strategies selected by the community: the development of a trails system, community gardens, and environmental and policy changes that support breastfeeding. Each strategy includes a goal statement and action steps. The priority goals are:

Trail Systems Goal: A network of linked paths throughout Moses Lake used for exercise, recreation, transportation, and tourism to promote healthier lifestyles for our community.

Breastfeeding Goal: Promote, protect, and support breastfeeding in the Moses Lake community so that good nutrition at birth is basic part of good nutrition throughout life.

Community Garden Goal: The Moses Lake Community Garden is a place open to all people of Moses Lake to:

  • Gather, garden and grow healthy food
  • Enjoy healthy leisure activity
  • Learn about gardening, nutrition, and preparing food
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables
Other key strategies for the community selected include:
  • Healthy Urban Planning
  • Maximizing Existing Nutrition Programs & Facilities
  • Maximize Existing Recreation Programs & Facilities
  • School Nutrition
  • Community Safety
